8 Remanded In Prison Over Alleged Cultism
An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded eight men in prison over alleged membership of Eiye Confraternity secret cult.
They are Babatunde Jimoh, 19; Dayo Shittu, 19; Tope Adeleye, 22; and Omowaye Rotimi, 31.
Others are Ajisafe Akinola, 37; Felix Femi, 25; Oluwabusuyi Tope, 23; and Adebayo Tope, 22.
The defendants, whose addresses were unknown, are facing charge of membership of Eiye Confraternity secret cult.
The prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Aug. 29, in Igede-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants were arrested and confessed that they were members of the Eiye Confraternity secret cult.
Leranmo said the offence contravened Section 4 (i) of Secret Cult Abolition Law 2017.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in prison pending legal advice from Office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The court declined the plea of the defendants.
The Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, in her ruling ordered the remand of the defendants pending legal advice from the state DPP.
