Former EastEnders star Paul Nicholls was exploring the Khun Si Falls onthe Thai holiday island of Koh Samui.

The actor was thought to have been taking a selfie when he fell from the waterfall and smashed his leg on a rock pool.He remained trapped there for three days during which he contracted a tropical bug.

During his ordeal, he  broke a leg and had one of his kneecap completely ripped off and now face a £90,000 operation bill in a Koh Samui hospital where he remains seriously injured. The 38-year-old remained trapped without food for three days before a villager spotted his abandoned motorbike.

Speaking of the near-death experience from hospital, Paul explained that he had not been lost, but his phone had stopped working after it plunged into the water – making him unable to tell anyone of his whereabouts.

He admitted: ‘I am lucky to be alive. It took such a long time to find me. It’s an understatement to say it wasn’t a great situation.’

Detailing more of his injuries, which left him in unbearable pain, he explained: ‘I’ve got a broken leg and I’m missing a kneecap. It needs complete reconstruction.’
