Bruce Maxwell Is The First MLB Player to Kneel During National Anthem
In a show of solidarity to NFL players like Colin Kaepernick, catcher Bruce Maxwell of the Oakland Athletics became the first Major League Baseball player to kneel during the national anthem. Shortly after the incident, the Oakland A’s released an official statement on twitter stating: they “respect and support all of our players’ constitutional rights and freedom of expression.”
Maxwell taking a knee followed two days of Donald Trump taking aim at NFL players for kneeling during games as well as the Golden State Warriors for not accepting his invitation to the White House after they won the NBA Championship earlier this year.
