COVID-19: Cases Exceed 20,000 As NCDC Announces 436 New Cases



Nigeria’s coronavirus infection toll has surpassed the 20,000 mark after recording 436 new COVID-19 cases in 18 states and Federal Capital Territory.

It would be recalled that over 19,000 cases, were recorded two days ago, indicating an increase of 1097 additional cases between June 19th and June 21st.

This spike in cases is attributed to high community transmission rate.

The agency made the announcement on Sunday night via its Twitter handle, saying;

otal coronavirus cases in Nigeria have now jumped from 19,808 confirmed on Saturday to 20,244 infections.

Total number of fatalities has increased from 506 to 518, while the number of discharged patients increased from 6718 recorded yesterday to 6879 successfully managed cases.

Also, NCDC announced in its COVID-19 situation report that total samples tested have also grown from 111,052 to 113,575 as at June 20th.

In other news, Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the discharge of 45 coronavirus patients from its isolation facilities after full recovery.

The Governor announced this on its official Twitter page on Sunday, stating that the discharged patients include 18 females and 27 males.

He added that 20 were discharged from Gbagada, Onikan (9), Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital (2), Agidingbi (1), Lekki (1) and 12 from LUTH Isolation Centres.

There are now a total of 1328 successfully managed cases in Lagos.
