Despacito Emerges First Video Ever To Hit 4 Billion Views On YouTube

Nine months after popular ‘Despacito’ was released by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, the monster hit song isn’t showing any sign of slowing down, it keeps winning and setting new global records.

‘Despacito’, released on January 12, has now been declared first video ever to hit 4 billion views on YouTube. On August 3, the song also outweighed Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” and PSY’s “Gangnam Style” to became the most viewed music video on YouTube.

‘Despacito’ also inked itself on Vevo’s record as the most viewed Spanish-language video in 24 hours with 5.4 million hits and the fastest video to reach 200 million views, 2 billion views and 3 billion views. Nielsen Music’s U.S.

The song is currently tied as the longest-running No. 1 song in U.S. history with Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” which set record as the longest song to stay atop the Hot 100 back in 1995.

Excited Luis Fonsi headed to twitter to express his excitement following the announcement of the new 4 billion record.”4 billion views!! Gracias por el apoyo familia. Gracias Puerto Rico,” he wrote in Spanish, which means, “4 billion views!! Thank you for supporting family. Thanks Puerto Rico,” in English.

Mid Year also reported that the song had been streamed 4.6 billiion times in just six month, setting another record. ‘Despacito’ means ‘slowly’ in English language, however, with the strength of the song, it’s not slowing down.
