Election Result Sheets For Saraki’s Kwara Reportedly Found In Abuja

The head of INEC in Kwara state, north-central Nigeria, Atahiru Madami, on Wednesday said that both Presidential and Senatorial election result sheets meant for the state were found in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Kwara is the home state of Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who is a bigwig of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Saraki is also running for a return to the nation’s parliament.

“The result sheets for presidential and senatorial elections are with the FCT INEC. It was a mix-up and they will send it to us this evening,” the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) said.

It was also learned that the result sheet meant for Lagos state senatorial election was found in Kwara state.

Concise News had reported that the INEC National Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu shocked many Nigerians on 16 February by announcing at about 2:40 a.m., a few hours to the commencement of the polls, that the elections had been postponed over logistic problems.

The Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, 23 February.

In the meantime, Atiku Abubakar, President Muhammadu Buhari’s main challenger in the race for Nigeria’s highest office, has alleged that the president plans to ‘use’ INEC to shift elections in Borno, Adamawa and Kaduna states.

The former vice president, who is running on the platform of the immediate past ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said in a statement that the plot was hatched at a closed-door meeting between Buhari and the three state governors in Abuja on Tuesday.

But in his reaction, INEC director of publicity and voter education, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, said the electoral umpire was not aware of such plan.
