FIFA bans CAF president Ahmad for five years
FIFA on Monday banned Ahmad Ahmad, CAF president and FIFA vice president for five years over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
Mr. Ahmad, 60, was banned from all football related activities at local and international levels.
FIFA announced Mr. Ahmad’s ban on its website on Monday after an indictment by the body’s adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee.
“Mr Ahmad had breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the CAF President, pursuant to the FIFA Code of Ethics,” the statement said.
On October 28, the suspended president announced his bid for a second term in office when his tenure expires in March 2021.
Nigeria’s NFF boss, Amaju Pinnick, who initially was Mr. Ahmad’s ally switched against him and aimed for CAF presidency himself. He has since withdrawn his ambition.
