Paul Pogba is confident that France have the talent at their disposal to win the World Cup this summer and has urged the French public to support them, instead of criticizing

The Manchester United midfielder is expected to form part of Didier Deschamps final squad of the upcoming World Cup in Russia this summer with France being one of the expected favorites to win the famous trophy for a second time.

But despite being regarded as one of the favourites, France struggled in their qualifying group against the likes of both Sweden and Luxembourg and lost 3-2 to Colombia in a recent international friendly at home.

But Pogba, in an interview with Telfoot, believes that there is doubt about the potential within the squad to challenge for glory in the World Cup.

“Of course,” said Pogba, according to ESPN.

“We have the players, we have everything. It’s not just the players, you need a team.

“We have a good team too, but we need to work still, by playing matches like that. Against strong teams we have very good results, but against the not so strong teams, it’s been a bit more difficult. We have to learn from games like that.

“At the World Cup, it’s going to be very, very difficult, everyone has to be ready for that. It’s not because we’re France that we’re going to win every game 5-0.”

The 25 year-old believes that the French public should get behind the team for the upcoming tournament and is expecting to be facing some very challenging opponents in Russia.

“In France, I think that people aren’t behind the team enough. We have a great generation that is coming, we have very good players, but that doesn’t mean we are certain to win,” said Pogba.

“There are other countries that are very good too. We need support from everyone, instead of pushing everyone down. I think the mentality of the journalists needs to be more positive too.

“I don’t look at [media coverage], they do their job, whether it’s good or bad, we’re on the pitch. If we play well and win, it’ll be good, if we lose, they’ll say we were bad. They do their jobs, we do ours.”

During France’s recent 3-1 win over Russia, Pogba played a starring role with an assist for Kylian Mbappe to score the opening goal. In the second-half, the midfielder then scored an excellent free-kick with Mbappe adding another goal to secure a win over the World Cup hosts.
