England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will be out of action until April after damaging the lateral ligaments in his right ankle against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Kane limped off on 34 minutes against Bournemouth at the weekend after colliding with Asmir Begovic.

Spurs went on to win the game 4-1 despite conceding first.

There were fears that the Premier League joint-top scorer’s (24 goals with Mohamed Salah) 2018 World Cup chances might be in jeopardy following the injury.

But Spurs gave the latest update on Kane’s injury, revealing he should return next month.

“TEAM NEWS: Preliminary assessments have confirmed that Harry Kane has damaged lateral ligaments in his right ankle,” Spurs stated on Twitter on Wednesday.

  • “The England striker sustained the injury following a challenge in our 4-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday and is expected to return to First Team training next month.”
