Insecurity: Nigerians Know We Have Done Our Best – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Friday said his administration has done its best in ending Boko Haram operations in the north-east and militancy in the south-south.

Buhari spoke in an interview he granted State House correspondents after joining his family members and some top government officials to observe the Eid El-Kabir prayers inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said;

I wish Nigerians the best of luck. We want security, prosperity, and the wellbeing of all Nigerians. I want Nigerians to be very conscious of their country. What we inherited when we came around in 2016 was Boko Haram in the North East and the militants in the South-South. Nigerians know that we have done our best. What is coming up in North West and North Central is disturbing indeed.

Buhari, who recalled that his administration inherited the security challenges from the previous administration, said he has done his best.

The President, however, acknowledged that security agencies “could do much better” in curbing insecurity in the North-East and North-Central, stressing;

I believe the military and the police and other law enforcement agencies, I think they could do much better, but we are keeping them on the alert to do their duties.

Buhari’s comments come days after gunmen attacked Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum on his way to Baga, a town 196km from Maiduguri.

The security situation in Southern Kaduna has deteriorated forcing the state government to order a curfew amid rising cases of banditry and kidnapping across the country’s North-West.

The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked the President to resign partly over the insecurity issue.

Meanwhile, the Senate has called on the President to sack the nation’s security service chiefs, although the idea has been pushed back by the Presidency.
