Meet The Indian Star Who’s The Third Highest-Active International Goalscorer

You may not be too familiar with Sunil Chhetri but you ought to take an interest in him. This week, he received his 100th cap for the Indian national team and marked the special occasion by bagging a brace, one of which was the most delicious lob over the goalkeepers’ head, in a 3-0 win over Kenya in Mumbai.

As per the Indian Express, at least 9,000 fans turned out for the big spectacle and the scenes looked pretty spectacular.

The skipper and the face of the Indian football, Chettri has now scored 61 goals in 100 games for his country – giving him an average goals per match ratio of 0.61.

It’s an incredible record and it gets even better when you see the names he’s rubbing shoulders with. With his recent double, he’s now the third-highest active international goalscorer.

The 33-year old has netted two more than David Villa and is only behind the footballing titans that are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, which is seriously impressive even if he’s playing against lesser opposition.

Commenting on his landmark after the game he said he could never have dreamt of achieving such a feat.

“It is something which is beyond my dream and I cannot tell you how happy and honoured I am. Only second player in the history of the country, it’s unbelievable,” he said.

Keep doing your thing, Sunil.
