Minister Of Youths And Sports Dismisses Scrapping Reports says FG’s Committed To Sustaining NYSC Scheme

Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has dismissed reports claiming National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme is set to be scrapped.

It would be recalled that a bill seeking the scrap of the one-year mandatory scheme for all graduates passed second reading in the House of Representatives.

Addressing the retort on his Twitter handle on Wednesday, the Minister said the government is committed to sustaining the scheme.

He stated;

The NYSC scheme remains one of the greatest tools for National development for our youth. The commitment of the government to sustaining the NYSC scheme remains. Dynamic Reforms and Initiatives towards current realities are ongoing. Nigeria will stand with her youth.

Military regime of General Yakubu Gowon established NYSC on May 22, 1973, under Decree No. 24 of 1973 as a way of reconciling and reintegrating Nigerians after the civil war between July 6, 1967 and January 15, 1970.
