NCDC Confirms 296 New Coronavirus Cases, 103 Recoveries, 6 Deaths

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 296 new cases, 103 recoveries and 6 deaths on September 8.

NCDC in a tweet via its official Twitter handle on Tuesday announced;

It would be recalled that the country’s total caseload was 55,160 with 43,231 recoveries and 1,061 fatalities nationwide.

With the latest toll, total cases have now increased to 55,456 with 43,334 recoveries and 1,067 casualties across the country.

Also, NCDC in its latest situation report has revealed that overall samples tested nationwide have increased from 424,186 to 426,803 as at September 7.

Meanwhile, Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir el-Rufai, has said it costs about N400,000 to treat a COVID-19 patient in the state.

Speaking on Monday during an executive committee meeting with traditional rulers chaired by Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, the governor said the amount is as a result of the increasing cost of drugs, feeding, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for doctors.

The Governor stressed;

It costs about N400,000 to treat one coronavirus patient. They have to be isolated and fed. The cost of medicine has increased, even the personal protective equipment that the doctors treating them have to wear. When you add all this up, the average cost of treatment is over N400,000 per person. We have to bear the cost.

El-Rufai stated that the government cannot tell patients to bear the cost of the treatment because it will lead to further spread of the disease.
