Nicolas Cage Could Join Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ Universe

Nicolas Cage has a thing for superheroes. After coming close to playing Clark Kent, aka Superman, for Tim Burton, the Hollywood actor played Ghost Rider, Marvel’s famous biker with the flaming skull, before appearing in Kick-Ass, and later dubbing the most famous of the Kryptonians in the DC Comics universe in the animated film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. A pretty long list, which is set to get even longer in the coming days.

Indeed, according to specialized website Discussing Films, Cage has been cast in one of the upcoming Spider-Man movies from Sony, the absolutely sublime animated feature film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In the movie, Miles Morales discovers his new powers as a spider man, and comes across a whole slew of other Spider-Men, including Spider-Gwen.

Nicolas Cage is set to voice Spider-Man Noir, a more somber version of our hero, who was around during the Great Depression in the United States in 1933. This is one of fans’ favorite aliases, and if the movie is a success (which is pretty likely given the stunning trailers and widespread positive feedback on the project up until now), it’s possible that Sony will produce a spin-off based on the character. We hope so!

In any case, we’re happy that Sony has decided to exploit its catalog with projects like this. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be released on December 12, two months after Venom starring Tom Hardy (which will be out on October 10).
