Nigerian Police Besiege Saraki And Ekweremadu’s Homes In Abuja

Police Besiege Saraki, Ekweremadu’s Homes

The Nigeria Police Force in the early hours of Tuesday morning besieged the homes of Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu in Abuja.

The Senate president was sent a late invitation on Monday to report at the Guzape Station in Abuja by 8 am on Tuesday. The invitation was in connection with the Offa robbery attack in which 33 persons were killed.

It was gathered further that the besiege is an apparent ploy to prevent them from making it to the National Assembly today because of an alleged plan by lawmakers to decamp en masse from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bear in mind that the Senate President had last night stated that the invitation to him by the police to report to its station over the Offa robbery investigation is a mere afterthought which is designed to achieve political purpose.

Mr Saraki, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said he had it on good authority that the police had already decided the suspects to arraign in court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday.

He said the choice of these suspects was based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mohammed U.E., and that the turnaround to invite him was a ploy aimed at scoring cheap political points.
