Nigerians have condemned INEC‘s postponement of the 2019 elections.
Earlier The Poise reported that the commission called for an emergency meeting believed to be for the postponement.
The presidential election, initially scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16th, has been shifted by a week to 23rd of February, while the governorship polls have been moved to 9th of March.
In their reactions, many Nigerians considered INEC’s action as uncalled for, considering the time of the postponement.
Below are some reactions on Twitter:
Kai INEC! A lot of people traveled to cast their vote today, some for many hours and some from abroad, but you did such a thing just few hours to the polls. Terrible! #NigeriaDecides pic.twitter.com/WkQHlhiWs8

@inecnigeria that was commanded by President Buhari through AGF Malami to postpone elections and waited till the 11th hour to carry out the order cannot guarantee free, fair and credible elections. Prof Mahmood Yakubu must resign!

The shoddy arrangement for this election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, @inecnigeria is a deliberate predetermined agenda of President @MBuhari to cling on to power even when it's obvious to him that Nigerians want him out.

Unless a miracle is performed tonight, this election cannot go on as planned. INEC is worried about the backlash and making calls to very important stakeholders to seek their cooperation and agreement on the way forward…

I really feel for well-meaning "Nigerians" who have travelled to their polling zones for elections only for INEC to postpone it to "23rd of February".
We all have to to persevere.
Delay is not denial.
INCOMPETENCE has just found a new name in "INEC"

As a Media Firm, understanding the position you hold and work you do, we believe you are impartial, just and transparent.
You have promised ’no postponement severally’, don't fail us now as #NigeriaDecides Tomorrow
