Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri Is Now The Number One Tennis Player In Africa

After making history at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Cup in October last year, Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri is back in the news – and for another good reason. According to the latest ranking by ITTF, he’s now the number one tennis player in Africa!

Before now, the number one was Egypt’s Omar Assar who has 10233 points. Quadri overtook him with one point to take the number one position in Africa for the second time this year.

Quadri’s points also saw him jump two steps up to 20th position in the world ranking, making it the second time the 29-year-old is breaking into the world top 20 table tennis players. No other Nigerian has ever achieved this feat.

Quadri isn’t the only Nigerian recognized by ITTF. With the likes of Toriola Segun (ranked at number six), Omotayo Olajide (ranked at number eight) and Abiodun Bode (ranked at number 10), Nigeria can brag of having the highest number of table tennis players in Africa’s top 10.
