Odion Ighalo Is Now The All-Time Top Scorer At His Club In China With Just 23 Goals



Most Nigerians will have bitter memories of Odion Ighalo missing multiple chances to score against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup. But fans of Changchun Yatai FC in the Chinese Super League will remember the striker as the player who boosted the club’s hope of avoiding relegation.

After rejoining the club a few weeks ago, Ighalo scored his eighth goal of the season on Tuesday – making him Changchun Yatai’s all-time leading goal-scorer. If only he had kept that same energy during the World Cup.

According to AOI Football, the record was formerly held by Bolivian footballer, Marcelo Moreno, who scored 22 goals for Changchun Yatai between 2015 and 2016. Before joining the Super Eagles to the World Cup, Ighalo equaled Moreno’s record after scoring twice in a game.

The 29-year-old also went ahead to win the ‘Player of the Month’ in April. So, having scored 15 goals in his debut season, the number of goals he’s scored so far is now 23, and we fully expect him to keep
