Ogbomoso victim Akeju died from high velocity AK 47 bullets: Autopsy
Moshood ‘Akeju’ Abdulganiu, one of the civilians believed killed by the police during Ogbomoso protests on October 11, died from the impact of high velocity AK 47 live rounds, a medical examination found.
The LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in its preliminary report of how Mr. Abdulganiu died said it came from 7.62 mm bullets and showed he was fired at a close range, according to a university medical official familiar with the investigation. The description matches the bullet specification for AK 47, the police’s rifle of choice.
A full investigation would be released in two weeks, an official told Peoples Gazette this weekend. The officials requested anonymity to comment on an ongoing investigation.
Oyo police commissioner Nwachukwu Enwonwu told the Gazette Sunday afternoon that he has yet to receive the preliminary autopsy report.
Mr. Abdulganiu was killed alongside Taiwo Adeoye in Ogbomoso last Saturday afternoon.
They were protesting both #EndSARS and the fatal shooting of Jimoh Isiaq by the police on October 10.
Although the police have not issued an outright denial of involvement in the killing of Mr. Abdulganiu amidst the post-mortem, they have tried to suppress evidence, the Gazette found.
Documents obtained by the Gazette showed that the police DPO in Ogbomoso Babalola Sarafa made concerted efforts to intimidate the family into signing away their rights to justice in the case.
Mr. Babalola compelled the family to depose to an affidavit that they do not want an autopsy or any further investigation or prosecution in the killing of their loved ones.
