The striker was linked with a move to China as well as AC Milan,Chelsea and Manchester City.

“It is true that I spoke to Borussia Dortmund before I went on vacation,” Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. “I told them my thoughts, that I was maybe ready to try something different. It was open and fair with Michael Zorc [Dortmund director of football] and Hans-Joachin Watzke [Dortmund CEO].

“But none of the clubs that wanted me could make it happen. So I’ll stay here at Borussia Dortmund. I like staying here very much, as I feel at home in Dortmund.”

Aubameyang also confirmed that he received an eye-opening offer from China – which reportedly would have made him the best paid player in the world – but turned it down.

‘Yes, I had an offer,’ he continued. ‘But I think the Chinese have been hard pressed to make an offer to BVB. I think that the structures are not yet as professional as in Europe.

‘I also noticed the back and forth when changing from Anthony Modeste. I am for clear things. And this matter was anything but clear, so I put it aside. I believe in God and fate. I believe that it makes sense that it has come so.’

Speaking of the various rumours that have surrounded him over the summer, he added: ‘I was on vacation, and nothing brings me out of my mind. But of course I [followed the rumours]. I had to laugh a lot.

‘Especially about the many advice given to me: Auba is supposed to do this, Auba is supposed to let that happen. That amused me.

‘My father was never in China. Of course, China was an option. It is normal that you think about it when you are offered so much money.

‘I know that many people have said that you cannot go to China because football is a step back. But I think that every person would think about it when he gets such an offer.’
