Salah Is Now More Valuable Than Cristiano Ronaldo

When the Champions League final came to an end, there was more fuss about Mohammed Salah’s injury than Cristiano Ronaldo’s performance and Real Madrid’s victory put together. Of course, the reason isn’t far-fetched: Salah etched his name in stone last season. And now, The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) has revealed he’s more valuable than Ronaldo.

According to data released by CIES, Salah’s transfer value is estimated at €171.3 million (over N72 billion). This places him at number five on the table.

While Salah is placed directly below Lionel Messi whose estimated value is €184.2 million (over N78 billion), Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t anywhere close to the Egyptian. Ronaldo, who is the oldest footballer on the table, is placed at number 24 with an estimated value of €103.4 million (over N44 billion).

What’s more, CIES’ data on Salah shows his transfer value has been climbing from €67.5 million (over N28 billion) since June 2017 when Liverpool signed him.

Coming up with these estimates took a whole lot of number-crunching. CIES had to formulate its algorithm using the financial details of over 5,000 transfers between July 2011 and June 2018 – taking no fewer than 31 players into consideration.
