South Africa Beat Equatorial Guinea 7-1 to top AWCON 2018 Group B
The Bayana Bayana of South Africa continued with their impressive streak at the ongoing 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) with a 7-1 thumping of Equatorial Guinea to go top of Group B over Nigeria.
After their win over defending champions Nigeria in their first game, South Africa made steps towards qualification to the next round with the biggest scoreline of AWCON 2018.
South Africa took the lead in the 20th minute through Linda Motlhalo before and Nompumelelo Nyandeni made it 2-0 two minutes later.
The Equatorial Guineans got a goal back at the stroke of halftime but their hopes of a comeback were diminished by Refiloe Jane who added a third goal for South Africa in the 56th minute.
The floodgates opened and four minutes later, Thembi Kgatlhane made it 4-1.
She added another goal a few minutes later before Amanda Mthandi and Jermaine Seoposenwe scored to make it 7-1.
Banyana Banyana will play Zambia in the last match of the group stages while Nigeria will face Equatorial Guinea, both on Saturday, November 24.
