Rangers Football Club have been crowned Scottish Premiership Champions for the first time since 2011 after Celtic were held to a goalless draw at Dundee United.

The club’s manager, Steven Gerrad has now claimed the first major league title of his managerial career, with Rangers now holding an unassailable 20-point lead in the League table.

Celtic needed to win in their game on sunday against Dundee United to stall Rangers’ celebration till next week, but the game at Celtic ended in a goalless draw.

Rangers were confined to Scotland’s fourth tie back in 2013 after financial collapse, but have rebuilt steadily and slowly. With their win, they denied Celtic a record-breaking 10th consecutive title victory.

Gers (Rangers) defeated St Mirren 3-0 at their home Ibrox on Saturday, goals from Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Ianis Hagi brought the title in sight. The , Celtic‘s failure to win the game on Sunday at Tannadice gifted Rangers the silverware.

Former Liverpool boss, Gerrad took the Rangers job in 2018 and has now ended Celtic’s dominace in the Scottish league in just 3 years of being in charge.

Rangers are currently unbeaten in the scottish league, winning 28 out of 32 league matches this season, the other four games ending in draws. They will be keen to go all-through this season without conceding defeat as the last team that went unbeaten for an entire season in the domestic league was Celtic in the 2016/2017 season, winning 34 of their 38 games during that season.

The Gers have lost only once this season in all competitions; the defeat came in the League Cup.

Rangers will now travel to Celtic Park for the Old firm Derby, knowing that the title is already in the bag.

He was given one-match ban following Ranger’s Wednesday’s 1-0 win at Livingston after swearing at referee John Beaton on the pitch at half-time.

Meanwhile, the beaten champions (Celtic) giving the newly-crowned Kings of Scotland a guard of honour remains to be seen.

Guard of honour is display of respect or standing ovation that is usually reserved for the winners of a league or cup competition.

In 2019, Gerrad’s side caused controversy by refusing to continue the tradition when Celtic were crowned Champions.
