Tribunal Affirms Pres. Buhari Was Qualified To Contest For Presidency

The presidential election tribunal affirmed that President Buhari was qualified to contest for presidency. The tribunal also dismissed the petition put forward by Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

According to Justice Mohammed Garba, the military certificate Buhari possesses is higher than the minimum requirement.

Atiku Abubakar who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party had filed a petition arguing that Buhari was not academically qualified to contest in the 2019 election.

Justice Mohammed Garba who headed the five-man tribunal in his ruling on Wednesday, September 11, stated that the army said the president has the certificate required to contest in the election.

The tribunal said there was no evidence that Buhari lied in his form about his academic qualification. Garba said:

“Mr Buhari is not only qualified but is eminently qualified.”

The tribunal said that the certificate issued to Buhari by the army is higher than the secondary school certificate which is the minimum requirement for presidential election
