World Cup 2018: Spain & Portugal Draw 3-3 As Ronaldo Nets Hatrick In Exciting Triller

Cristiano Ronaldo saved Portugal from defeat, scoring a brilliant hat-trick as they drew 3-3 against Spain, in the first game of their 2018 World Cup campaign.

The Real Madrid superstar opened scoring as early as the 4th minute. Ronaldo was fouled by his team-mate at club level, Nacho and the referee pointed to the spot. He sent De Gea the wrong way from the resulting penalty. The goal was the fastest in a World Cup game since 1966, when Jose Augusto scored after 1:35 against Hungary and also sealed an incredible record of consistency over Ronaldo’s career.

Ronaldo has now scored in eight consecutive major international tournaments – including World Cups, European Championships and Copas America – a feat no European or South American player has ever achieved before.

He also becomes the fourth man to score in four World Cup finals, having previously netted in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Diego Costa levelled for Spain with a superb solo effort, but Ronaldo put his side back in front, as his shot was fumbled in by De Gea.

Costa equalized 10 minutes after the break and then Nacho fired the Spaniards in front for the first time in the game.

But with two minutes left on the clock, Ronaldo stepped up and spanked a free-kick into the top corner.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 51st career hat-trick (club and country), and his treble was also the 51st hat-trick scored in World Cup history.
