The iconic Rage virus is making a chilling return. 28 Years Later, the long-awaited third installment in Danny Boyles legendary zombie franchise, is officially set to hit theaters on June 20, 2025 and fans couldnt be more hyped.

This film continues the story nearly three decades after the original outbreak depicted in 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007). Directed by Boyle and written by longtime collaborator Alex Garland, the film promises a fresh yet terrifying chapter in the dystopian saga.

Plot Sneak Peek

The story follows a family living on the remote island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland. When their refuge is breached, theyre forced to journey across the ruined mainland, where new horrors and possibly new hope await.

Meet the Cast

The star-studded lineup includes:

  • Jodie Comer as Isla, a pregnant mother trying to protect her family

  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Jamie, her survivalist husband

  • Ralph Fiennes, Jack OConnell, Edvin Ryding, and Alfie Williams round out the intense ensemble

Though original star Cillian Murphy wont appear onscreen, hes involved behind the scenes as an executive producer.

Behind the Scenes

Filming began in May 2024 across the UK, including Northumberland and Yorkshire. In a modern twist, some scenes were shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max to enhance the gritty realism.

The first trailer dropped in December 2024, quickly trending #1 on YouTube and racking up over 10 million views in two days a clear sign that anticipation is sky-high.

A New Trilogy Begins

28 Years Later is just the beginning. A sequel titled The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, is already in the works and scheduled for release on January 16, 2026.
