Nottingham Forest has made a decisive move to salvage their Premier League campaign, appointing former Everton and Burnley boss Sean Dyche as their third manager of the season. The 54-year-old Englishman replaces Ange Postecoglou, whose turbulent 40-day tenure concluded after a 3–0 defeat to Chelsea over the weekend. Dyche’s appointment follows the earlier sacking of Nuno Espírito Santo, who had guided the club back into Europe just last season.

Dyche, who has signed a contract running until 2027, will immediately take charge of the first team, with his debut match scheduled for Thursday as Forest host FC Porto in the Europa League. A former Forest youth player, Dyche returns to the City Ground facing the critical task of stabilising a team that currently sits 18th in the Premier League table, having collected a meager five points from eight matches. He had been out of work since his dismissal by Everton in January following a two-year spell at Goodison Park.

Forest, who reportedly also considered Fulham’s Marco Silva and former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini, ultimately opted for Dyche’s extensive experience and his reputation for discipline and defensive solidity. Announcing the appointment, the club stated that Dyche’s leadership qualities and tactical know-how made him the ideal choice to guide the club through “its next chapter.”

“Dyche brings the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement to guide the club through its next chapter,” the club said in an official statement. “Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organisation, resilience, and strength from set pieces, qualities that align closely with the current squad’s attributes and the club’s footballing identity.”

The statement further highlighted Dyche’s deep connection to the city, noting that as a former Forest youth player who lives locally, he possesses a “deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters”—a factor the club believes will be vital in winning over the fanbase.

Joining Dyche will be his long-time associates Ian Woan and Steve Stone, both of whom are former Forest players who previously worked with him at Burnley and Everton. The duo are expected to play key roles in reconnecting the team with its supporters and instilling the resilience that marked Dyche’s most successful sides.

Forest’s decision to appoint a third manager in less than three months reflects a turbulent start to the 2025–26 season. The club’s return to European football under Nuno Espírito Santo had raised expectations, but inconsistency and rapid off-field upheaval have seen them struggle both domestically and abroad. Dyche’s appointment signals a definite return to basics, with a focus on structure, grit, and collective discipline—qualities the club’s hierarchy hopes will steer Forest away from the relegation zone and back toward stability.
