Arsenal produced a devastating second-half blitz at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night, sweeping aside Atlético Madrid 4-0 to secure their third consecutive UEFA Champions League win and, crucially, marking the club’s 100th victory in the competition proper.

The Premier League leaders began the contest brightly, signalling their intent early on when Declan Rice fired over the bar after Eberechi Eze’s initial strike had rebounded off the post. Despite a promising first half that saw Gabriel Martinelli have a goal disallowed for offside, the game remained locked at 0-0, thanks in part to a close shave when David Raya was caught off his line, narrowly escaping punishment from Giuliano Simeone.

Diego Simeone’s side looked ready to deliver a typical sucker-punch right after the break, as Julian Alvarez rattled the crossbar with a long-range effort. However, that proved to be the turning point that awakened the Gunners.

A Second-Half Deluge

Mikel Arteta’s men finally broke the deadlock in the 57th minute through a familiar set-piece combination. Declan Rice floated a magnificent free-kick into the box, and defender Gabriel was on hand to power a clinical header home.

The floodgates then opened in a breathtaking 11-minute spell. The Gunners doubled their advantage moments later after a wonderful driving run and pass from youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly set up Gabriel Martinelli, who curled an unstoppable finish past Jan Oblak.

Viktor Gyökeres then grabbed his first goal in seven games, finishing a scrappy play that took a deflection off David Hancko for the third. Three minutes later, Arsenal piled on the misery with a fourth, leveraging their set-piece mastery once more: Rice’s corner found Gabriel, who headed the ball back across goal for Gyökeres to knee home his second of the night.

The comprehensive 4-0 scoreline was a statement victory that ensures Arsenal extend their perfect UCL record this season and their run of seven consecutive victories against Spanish opposition. The defeat was a chastening end to Atlético Madrid’s six-match unbeaten streak, leaving them still searching for their first away win of the season. Gabriel Martinelli was named the Flashscore Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
