Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and National Vice Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Babachir Lawal, has stated his belief that both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be defeated in the 2027 general election.
Lawal made the statement on Saturday while officially welcoming Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, the former governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in Kogi State, who formally defected to the ADC.
A Scathing Critique of the Major Parties
The former SGF delivered a sharp critique of the ruling APC, describing it as a new “haven for fugitives fleeing from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).” He predicted a mass exodus from the dominant political structures, stating, “It is my belief that more patriots will soon join us even as the PDP self-destructs and the APC becomes a haven for EFCC fugitives.”
Lawal went further, accusing the APC of being “delusional,” claiming its primary focus was to “write election results even before elections begin.” He warned that this alleged strategy would be frustrated by Nigerians supporting the ADC. “This is pure delusion because it will not happen. Nigerians will back us to frustrate any criminal manipulation of the 2027 election results,” he asserted.
Positioning the ADC as the Alternative
Lawal presented the ADC as the only viable option for a nation in crisis, calling it “a party of visionaries and patriots who are fed up with the direction of the country under the leadership of PDP and APC.”
“Every patriotic Nigerian now understands that our country has reached the edge of a cliff. The ADC offers Nigerians an opportunity to make a U-turn, recalibrate, and redirect our governance toward a progressive, people-centric system,” Lawal stated.
He also issued a word of caution regarding new entrants, stressing that not every politician defecting from other parties would be accepted into the ADC. This selectivity, he noted, is necessary “lest they corrupt our ideals with attitudes imbibed from their corrupt, undemocratic home parties.”
Attack on Adamawa State Governance
The ADC leader also used the platform to take a direct swipe at the Adamawa State Government, currently led by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (PDP). Lawal claimed that in over six years of the Fintiri administration, there have been “no people-oriented projects.”
He specifically questioned the fiscal responsibility of the administration, stating, “All we get from over six years of PDP governance is a couple of flyovers carrying scanty traffic despite billions of naira accruing to the state. Sometimes, I wonder whether the money leaves Abuja for Yola at all,” he concluded.
