Kehinde Adefisoye

In the bustling heart of Balogun and Alaba International Markets, most see only a chaotic trade of textiles. But for Kehinde Adefisoye, these markets are the primary archives of a living history.

The Lagos-based designer doesn’t just shop for fabric; she researches it, seeking out the textures that define Nigerian identity to translate them into contemporary silhouettes.

Since launching her label, Slickwears, in 2021, Adefisoye has emerged as a disciplined voice in a new generation of Nigerian creatives. Her approach is less about the fleeting trends of fast fashion and more about a methodical, research-led craft that bridges the gap between
traditional heritage and global practice.

“Fashion is more than clothing, it’s a dialogue between culture, craftsmanship, and creativity,” Adefisoye says. “Every fabric, every cut tells a story”. Adefisoye’s story is one of rigorous preparation with a background spanning the Lagos Fashion Academy and The Fashion Designers’ Academy, where she has spent over five years refining the precision of her pattern-making and draping. This technical foundation served her well behind the scenes of industry giants like Lagos Fashion & Design Week and GTBank Fashion Weekend, where she cut her teeth in styling and backstage coordination.

To date, Adefisoye has produced four distinct collections that have since traveled far beyond the borders of Nigeria. Her work has been showcased at Tirana Fashion Week in Albania, Phnom Penh Designers Week in Cambodia, and the Perth Fashion Festival in Australia.

Despite this international reach, including a presence on Amazon that brings her designs to a global audience, her roots remain firmly planted in the local ecosystem. Recognized through mentorships with Fashion Focus Africa (FFA) and the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FDAN), she represents a shift toward a more professionalized, documented fashion industry in West Africa.

For Kehinde Adefisoye, the goal remains clear: ensuring that when Nigerian fashion speaks, it does so with a voice that is both culturally deep and professionally sharp. As she continues to iterate through her evolving design language at Slickwears, she isn’t just making clothes; she’s documenting the future of Nigerian craftsmanship, one stitch at a time.
