The San Antonio Spurs are officially headed to the Western Conference semi-finals after a commanding 114-95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday. The win finalized a 4-1 series triumph, marking a significant milestone for a franchise that has not tasted postseason success since 2017.

San Antonio dictated the tempo from the opening tip, leading wire-to-wire and building an insurmountable momentum early on. After trailing in previous games, the Spurs burst out of the gates at the AT&T Center, establishing a massive 28-point lead before heading into the halftime break up 65-45. While Portland threatened a late comeback with an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to nine, the Spurs responded with championship-level poise.

Victor Wembanyama was the anchor for San Antonio, recording a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds while adding six dominant blocks. The young star’s defensive presence was vital in the final minutes as he stifled Portland’s late push. De’Aaron Fox proved equally instrumental, scoring 13 of his 21 total points in the final period to ensure the series concluded on Tuesday night.

Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson acknowledged his team’s late-game lapses but praised their overall consistency throughout the series-clinching performance. “It did feel like we let our foot off the gas,” Johnson admitted. “NBA games are long, it’s not an excuse. That means we’ve got to be better, but zero lead changes is zero lead changes. We have a lot of things we can be better at, but we’re ready to step up to the plate and swing.”

The victory highlights a balanced offensive attack for San Antonio, with six different players scoring in double figures. Now the second seed in the West, the Spurs turn their attention to a much-anticipated Western Conference semi-final showdown. They will await the winner of the series between the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves, with the Timberwolves currently holding a 3-2 lead. As the franchise hunts for its first NBA title since 2014, the young Spurs are proving they have both the talent and the grit to be genuine contenders.
