Hollywood actors Jonathan Majors and Meagan Good became emotional during a special #WithChude conversation with Chude Jideonwo at the 15th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos on Tuesday, November 3. Speaking under the theme The Art of Becoming: Craft, Identity and Reinvention, Majors revisited the dramatic rise and collapse of his Hollywood career, from major film roles and industry recognition to public scrutiny, a criminal conviction and financial hardship. He also recalled the period when he had lost almost everything and wondered what he could offer Meagan. “I ain’t got no money. I got nothing to give her,” he said, describing how she stayed, supported him and stood beside him through the trial.

As Chude pressed him on how he found his way through that period, Majors spoke about confronting parts of himself he had left unattended: unresolved trauma, his upbringing and personal struggles that had remained hidden behind his success. He described how people he had counted on gradually disappeared, while bills and legal costs continued to mount. He also spoke about his relationship with God, describing Jesus as a companion through suffering, tears and the work of rebuilding. Looking back, Majors said he now gives thanks for the interruption that forced him to confront himself: “When God needs you to stop, he will stop you.” It was as he revisited this chapter of his life that the conversation became particularly emotional, with both him and Meagan in tears.

The exchange gave particular meaning to The Art of Becoming: what happens when the identity built around achievement is stripped away, and what remains when a person must begin again? For Majors, the answer has come through faith, the love and support of his wife, and a renewed understanding of purpose. His conversation with Chude was not simply a recounting of a difficult chapter in Hollywood; it was an account of the personal reckoning that followed, and of the person he believes he is becoming because of it.
The interview was part of #WithChude’s presence at AFRIFF 2026.
