Nottingham Forest advanced to the semi-finals of the FA Cup after a 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, following a 0-0 draw after extra time. This extends Forest’s unbeaten run to five matches.

Forest started the game strongly, with Taiwo Awoniyi forcing a good save from Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. However, Brighton grew into the game, with Pervis Estupinan testing Forest’s Matz Sels. Carlos Baleba also came close for Brighton, but his shot went just wide.

In the second half, Morgan Gibbs-White threatened for Forest, but Verbruggen tipped his shot over the bar. Jack Hinshelwood then missed a headed chance for Brighton.

With neither side able to score, the match went into extra time.

Brighton came close to scoring in extra time, but Sels made a crucial save to deny Diego Gmez. A late goal by Gmez, assisted by Joao Pedro, was ruled out for offside.

The match remained goalless, leading to a penalty shootout. Nottingham Forest’s Ryan Yates scored the decisive penalty, capitalizing on two saves by Sels, to send his team to their first major semi-final in 34 years. This also marks Forest’s third successful FA Cup shootout this season.
