A devastating road accident involving security personnel from Sector 4, Operation Crush, Bende Axis, has left one member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) dead and nine others injured, including three police officers. The Abia State Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred on March 30, 2025, at approximately 6:10 PM along Bende Road.

According to reports, the patrol vehicle carrying the security team overturned while returning to base, resulting in severe consequences for those on board. Emergency responders rushed the injured to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia, where one NSCDC officer was pronounced dead. The remaining victims, including Corporals Achibere Paul and Nkama Emmanuel, and Police Constable Okibe, are currently receiving medical treatment. The condition of the injured officers remains under close observation as they fight to recover.

The firearms of the security personnel involved in the crash have been secured and are now in the custody of Operation Crush Commander, Lt. Ogar. Efforts are ongoing to retrieve the overturned vehicle from the accident site, with authorities working to determine the cause of the incident.

In a separate but equally tragic event, two personnel from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) lost their lives in a fatal road accident on the Ntigha stretch of the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway. The officers, identified as Akoh E. Benjamin and Uzoojike Victor, were traveling in a Sienna vehicle from Aba to Abakaliki when the crash occurred. Both were confirmed dead upon arrival at FMC Umuahia. A civilian passenger in the vehicle remains in a coma, battling for survival. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the FMC mortuary as investigations into the circumstances of the accident continue.

The dual tragedies have cast a somber shadow over Abia States security community, highlighting the risks faced by personnel in the line of duty. Operation Crush, a joint security initiative launched to combat crime in the state, has been a critical force in maintaining peace, making the loss of these officers particularly poignant.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the causes of either accident, but preliminary reports suggest that road conditions and vehicle control may have played a role. The incidents have sparked renewed calls for improved road safety measures and support for security personnel operating in challenging environments.

The Poise NG extends its deepest condolences to the families of the fallen officers and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. As investigations proceed, the public awaits further updates on these heartbreaking events.

The Poise NG will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more details emerge.
