Grammy award-winning Afrobeats sensation, Burna Boy, has called on his fellow Nigerian artists to set their sights beyond local success and focus on building international businesses in music. The ‘Last Last’ singer shared his advice in a post on his Instagram story on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Burna Boy cautioned his colleagues against being misled by social media metrics and Nigerian fans alone, emphasizing that these local indicators won’t translate to filling stadiums in other parts of the world. Drawing attention to the significant difference in streaming revenue, he stated that one million streams in Nigeria yield a meager $300-$400 (300-400), whereas the same number of streams in the UK, US, or Europe brings in a much more substantial $3000-$4000 (3000-4000).

In his message, Burna Boy explicitly stated that reaching the top of any music chart in Nigeria should not be considered a major accomplishment. He advised artists to “Aim higher or do other business on the side,” concluding his statement with the words, “I type with love.”

In other news: Fellow Nigerian singer Orezi has also commented on a recent online issue involving Burna Boy and socialite Sophia Egbueje, where a Lamborghini was allegedly involved. In an interview with Echo Room, Orezi reportedly shared a past experience of promising a lady a house in exchange for intimacy but failing to fulfill his promise. He suggested that it’s acceptable for men to sometimes not keep their promises to women, drawing a parallel with instances where women also don’t remain faithful in relationships.
