AS Monaco delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Marseille at the Stade Louis II, leapfrogging their rivals into second place in Ligue 1. Denis Zakaria’s goal and assist combo played a pivotal role in Monaco’s triumph, significantly impacting the race for Champions League qualification.

The match began with Marseille’s Luis Henrique testing the Monaco defense early, firing a shot just wide. Monaco responded with Takumi Minamino’s attempt, which sailed into the stands. However, Minamino’s fortunes changed when he capitalized on Gernimo Rulli’s fumble, tapping the ball into an unguarded net, assisted by Denis Zakaria.

Marseille squandered a golden opportunity to equalize before halftime when Henrique misfired with an open goal. Monaco goalkeeper Philipp Khn made a crucial save, preserving his team’s lead.

Khn continued his impressive performance in the second half, denying Mason Greenwood twice. Monaco extended their lead in the 58th minute when Breel Embolo converted a one-on-one chance, assisted by Vanderson. Marseille’s Amine Gouiri threatened to ignite a comeback, but Khn made another vital save.

Zakaria sealed Monaco’s victory in the 80th minute, converting a penalty after Rulli fouled Embolo. The 3-0 win solidified Monaco’s position in the top four, now five points ahead of Olympique Lyonnais.

This victory marks Monaco’s sixth consecutive home win in Ligue 1, placing them firmly on track for a Champions League appearance. Conversely, Marseille’s fourth consecutive away defeat raises concerns about their European aspirations.
