Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a significant hamstring injury, the club’s coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed.

The Dutch international sustained the injury during Manchester United’s disappointing 4-1 Premier League defeat to Newcastle United last weekend. Zirkzee was visibly upset as he was helped off the pitch at St. James’ Park, indicating the seriousness of the setback.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Manchester United’s crucial Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon, Amorim delivered the news, stating, “He is out for the season. He will not play again this season, let’s prepare him for the next one now.”

Amorim acknowledged the progress the 23-year-old Zirkzee had been making since his 42.50 million move from Bologna on July 14, 2024. “It’s tough for any player to face such a setback, especially when they are improving in every aspect of the game,” Amorim said. “He needs to focus on his recovery moving forward.”

Since joining the Red Devils, Zirkzee has featured in 48 matches across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. His contract with Manchester United runs until June 30, 2029, meaning the forward still has four years remaining at Old Trafford.

This injury comes as a blow to Manchester United’s attacking options for the remainder of the season, leaving manager Amorim to rely on other members of the squad as they navigate their remaining Premier League fixtures and their Europa League campaign.
