In a scathing rebuke, the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Delta State, Ken Pela, has dismissed the recent defections of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a mere “uniform change,” asserting that both the PDP and APC are fundamentally the same.

Pela, in a statement released on Tuesday, vehemently argued that the political maneuver was not motivated by the development of Delta State, but rather by the desperate desire of a political class to retain power at all costs. He painted a grim picture of the APC’s performance at the federal level, questioning their ability to bring any meaningful development to Delta.

“Before we focus on the unfolding political drama within Delta State, it is important to first understand the broader national context,” Pela stated. “The APC government at the federal level, which some now claim will bring Delta into the mainstream of development, has presided over some of the most disastrous years in Nigerias recent history.”

He went on to accuse the APC of widespread corruption, stating, “Despite promises of change, Nigeria under the APC has witnessed alarming cases of corruption at the highest levels. Public funds meant for security, healthcare, education, and infrastructure have been siphoned, mismanaged, or wasted on a grand scale.”

Pela warned Delta citizens against being misled by the defections, arguing that they represent a continuation of “decades of PDP misrule” under a different guise. “Fellow Deltans, it is clear that the political realignment we are witnessing is not about the development of Delta State it is about the survival of a political class desperate to retain power at any cost,” he emphasized.

He further asserted his long-held belief that the PDP and APC are essentially interchangeable, stating, “For years, I have consistently maintained that the PDP and the APC are two sides of the same coin.”

Pela’s sharp criticism has ignited a fierce debate within Delta State, raising questions about the true motivations behind the defections and the potential impact on the state’s political landscape.
