A Federal High Court in Kaduna State has convicted and sentenced TikTok content creator Muhammad Kabir to prison for the abuse and mutilation of Nigerian Naira notes. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the conviction in a statement released today, Thursday.

Kabir, known on TikTok and Instagram as @youngcee0066, was apprehended on May 13, 2025, in the Tudun Wada area of Kaduna State. His arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on social media showing him spraying Naira notes on the floor, stepping on them, and making provocative statements in Hausa, daring the EFCC to arrest him at his known residence.

Upon his arrest, Kabir was arraigned before Justice R.M. Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Kaduna, on a one-count amended charge related to the unlawful mutilation of the Naira.

When the charge was read to him, Kabir pleaded guilty. Consequently, the prosecution counsel, M.U. Gadaka, urged the court to deliver a conviction and appropriate sentence.

Justice Aikawa then delivered the verdict, sentencing Muhammad Kabir to six months imprisonment with the option of paying a ?300,000 fine to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The charge against Kabir stated: That you Muhammad Kabir Saad (a.k.a youngcee0066)(M) sometime in 2025 at Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did unlawfully mutilate Naira by stepping on the Naira banknotes while making a social media video and posting same on the internet and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007 punishable under Section 21(1) of the same Act.

This conviction serves as a reminder of the legal consequences associated with the abuse and defacement of the Nigerian currency, particularly with the increasing prevalence of such acts being documented and shared on social media platforms. The EFCC’s swift action and the court’s judgment underscore the authorities’ commitment to upholding the sanctity of the Naira.
