In a significant boost for Real Madrid, star forward Kylian Mbappe is poised to make his FIFA Club World Cup (CWC) debut when the 15-time European champions take on Juventus in the last 16 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday. Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso confirmed the strong possibility of Mbappe’s return, stating at a press conference on Monday, “It’s a big possibility.”
Mbappe’s anticipated return further strengthens a Real Madrid squad that has also seen the recovery of key defenders Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao. Alonso emphasized the importance of their presence: “Both Dani and Eder are coming back after a long recovery. It’s an advantage for them and the whole team to feel they’re close and involved.” He stressed the collective effort required at this crucial stage, noting, “At this decisive stage, everyone – starters and those supporting – has an important role.”

Meanwhile, Juventus coach Igor Tudor acknowledged the formidable challenge posed by Real Madrid but insisted his side was prepared to compete fiercely, not merely use the match as preparation for the upcoming season. “We’ve got a top-level team. The draw wasn’t the best possible, but it must be accepted,” Tudor stated in his press conference. He added, “We have to believe, run a lot, sacrifice, make no mistakes, and also have a bit of luck. I believe, the players believe, and we’ll see what happens when the match starts.”
Tudor also praised Real Madrid’s recent tactical evolution under Alonso, drawing parallels to Alonso’s successful tenure at Bayer Leverkusen. “Their last match looked a lot like what Leverkusen were doing – similar plays, systems, and style. Xabi Alonso has quickly implemented these ideas,” he observed, while also noting that Madrid still possesses “some weaknesses we can exploit.”
