Defending champions Brazil have stormed into the Women’s Copa America final, delivering a commanding 5-1 semi-final victory over Uruguay on Tuesday. The emphatic win not only propels Brazil into Saturday’s championship match but also secures their qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Brazil will now face Colombia in the final, a highly anticipated rematch of the 2022 title decider, which Brazil won to claim their eighth Copa America title.

Forward Amanda Gutierres was the star of the show for Brazil, netting two goals. “We are very happy, it is my first final. It is the result of the work we have been doing with the coach,” the 24-year-old said after the match. Looking ahead to the final, she added, “Colombia are a very tough opponent, but we are working very hard to win that trophy.”

Brazil’s offensive prowess was evident early, with Gutierres opening the scoring in the 11th minute with a powerful header from a pinpoint cross by legendary captain Marta. Just two minutes later, Gio Garbelini capitalized on a loose ball inside the box to double Brazil’s advantage.

Uruguay nearly found a response when Belen Aquino’s effort struck the crossbar, but Brazil extended their lead to 3-0 in the 27th minute through a penalty converted by Marta, marking her first goal of the tournament.

Uruguay managed to pull one back in the 51st minute via an own goal by Isa Haas, momentarily offering a glimmer of hope for a comeback. However, Gutierres quickly extinguished those hopes, restoring Brazil’s three-goal lead in the 65th minute with a brilliantly taken free kick. Substitute Dudinha capped the rout four minutes from time, securing the dominant 5-1 victory for the Brazilians.

The stage is now set for a thrilling final clash between two of South America’s powerhouse women’s football nations.
