Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council, effective immediately. The decision, revealed at the close of the 12th executive council meeting of 2025, sees all commissioners relieved of their duties, with the Governor retaining only the office of the Chief of Staff.

In a key appointment, Barrister Moses Atagher, a seasoned administrator and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, has been named the new Chief of Staff to the Governor. Atagher, who also previously served as acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, assumes the role with immediate effect.

According to Terso Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the dissolution exclusively affects the commissioners. Governor Alia expressed his profound appreciation to the outgoing commissioners for their two years of dedicated service. He urged those who may not be reappointed to maintain their commitment to the party and continue supporting the administration’s goals.

Speaking on behalf of the dissolved commissioners, Barrister Bemsen Mnyim thanked Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve the state, describing their tenure as a valuable learning experience.

The former commissioners have been directed to promptly hand over to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries, ensuring a smooth transition. This significant cabinet reshuffle is seen as a strategic move by Governor Alia to reposition his administration for greater efficiency and to inject new energy into governance.
