Serhou Guirassy continued his red-hot scoring form with a brace in Borussia Dortmund’s decisive 3-0 victory over Union Berlin, a result that extends Die Schwarzgelben’s Bundesliga unbeaten run to double figures. The win at Signal Iduna Park also marks Dortmund’s first league victory of the new season.

Coming off an impressive 2-1 win against Stuttgart last weekend, Union Berlin entered the match with confidence, hoping to secure their first-ever top-flight point at this venue. They started the match well, showing determination and structure, though they struggled to create any significant scoring opportunities.

Dortmund, by contrast, initially sat back before finding their rhythm and creating several openings. Guirassy had an uncharacteristic early miss, failing to beat Frederik Ronnow in a one-on-one after a misplaced pass from Tom Rothe. After a brief lull, the final five minutes of the first half were explosive. Union Berlin had a golden chance when debutant Aaron Anselmino misjudged a header, but Andrej Ilic couldn’t capitalize with a shot on target as Gregor Kobel charged forward.

Dortmund immediately made Union rue that missed opportunity. Just two minutes later, a superb cross from Yan Couto found Guirassy, who expertly redirected the ball into the back of the net on the volley, giving Dortmund a crucial lead just before the break.

The Guinean striker’s first goal extended his scoring streak to seven consecutive Bundesliga matches, and he was far from finished. Guirassy played a key role in Dortmund’s second goal as well, flicking a pass from Anselmino to Maximilian Beier before receiving the ball back and cheekily chipping his finish over Ronnow to double the lead.

Union Berlin, led by Steffen Baumgart, struggled to find a response, unable to replicate St. Pauli’s comeback against Dortmund from the previous weekend. The match was sealed when Felix Nmecha ran onto a cleared corner and fired a powerful shot into the back of the net, making it 3-0.

The victory extends Dortmund’s streak of winning at least one of their opening two Bundesliga fixtures to 18 consecutive seasons. While the loss was only Union’s second in their last 12 league outings, and their first away defeat in that period, Steffen Baumgart will be pleased with his side’s improved performance compared to their last visit to Dortmund in February, which resulted in a 6-0 defeat.
