Werder Bremen has announced the signing of striker Victor Boniface on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen. The move, completed on transfer Deadline Day, sees the 24-year-old join Bremen after a series of failed transfer attempts earlier in the window.

Bremen’s coach, Horst Steffen, expressed his optimism about the new signing, stating, “I’m certain he can be a very important factor for us this season.” The deal comes as a welcome boost for Bremen, who secured the striker after a reported 70 million euro offer from Saudi club Al Nassr fell through in January. That deal collapsed when Al Nassr instead signed Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

In August, Boniface was also linked with a move to Italian giants AC Milan, but that transfer reportedly failed after the striker did not pass a medical, despite an agreement between the clubs.

Boniface was a key player in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic, unbeaten double-winning season in 2023/24. He scored 14 goals and provided nine assists in 23 league games, playing a pivotal role in the team’s success. He is the latest high-profile player to leave Leverkusen in this transfer window, following the departures of Florian Wirtz, Granit Xhaka, Jonathan Tah, Jeremie Frimpong, and coach Xabi Alonso.
