Austria continued their perfect start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 victory against Cyprus in Linz. This win extends their impressive unbeaten streak on home soil to nine matches.

Despite a quiet first half with few clear-cut chances for either side, the second half provided more action. Austria secured the breakthrough in the 55th minute when captain Marcel Sabitzer calmly converted a penalty after Christoph Baumgartner was fouled in the box.

Following the goal, the game opened up, with both teams creating more scoring opportunities. However, neither side was able to find the back of the net again. A bizarre moment occurred when play was delayed due to a hole that appeared on the field.

Ultimately, Austria held on to their one-goal lead, maintaining their position at the top of Group H. The victory marks their seventh win in eight meetings against Cyprus.
