The Rivers State Government has officially announced its transition from emergency rule back to democratic governance. This was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika.

According to the announcement, a key event to mark this transition will be an interdenominational church thanksgiving service. The service is scheduled for Sunday at the Ecumenical Centre on Abonima Wharf Road, Port Harcourt, and is set to begin at 10 a.m., with all invited guests asked to be seated by 9:30 a.m.

The state government has extended an invitation to a wide range of critical stakeholders to attend the service. The guest list includes permanent secretaries, local government chairmen, heads of state security and paramilitary agencies, traditional rulers, chairmen and members of various boards and governing councils, and captains of industries.

The Special Guest of Honour for the event will be the Rivers Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd).

The transition activities are a result of the impending reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to his position. Fubara had previously been suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The upcoming thanksgiving service aims to celebrate the state’s return to a fully democratically elected government.
