Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has issued a strong declaration of faith in the Nigerian national team, insisting the squad remains determined to fight until the end to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking ahead of today’s must-win qualifier against Lesotho, the Fulham star acknowledged the recent setbacks but maintained that belief within the dressing room is unwavering.

“Of course, we believe that we’re going to go to the World Cup; otherwise, we wouldn’t be here,” Iwobi told SuperSport. “We’re going to try and do our best, so hopefully the fans can continue to believe in us as well.”

Nigeria currently sits third in Group C and is under immense pressure, needing victories in their remaining matches against Lesotho and the Benin Republic to stand a chance of qualifying for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Iwobi stressed that the players are fully aware of the stakes and are focused on translating their hard work in camp into results.

“The team knows what is at stake. We’ve been working hard in camp, and everyone is giving everything. We just need to stay focused, stay united, and take each game as it comes,” he added.

The midfielder also shared a lighthearted comment about the strong Nigerian presence at his club, Fulham, following the recent arrival of Samuel Chukwueze alongside himself and Calvin Bassey. “It’s nice to have Samuel join us… We’re technically Naija FC now,” he joked.

The crucial encounter against Lesotho is scheduled to kick off today at 5 p.m. (Nigerian time). The match comes shortly after Iwobi equaled Shola Ameobi’s record for the most Premier League appearances by a Nigerian player, highlighting his current influential status both for club and country. The Super Eagles are desperate for a win to keep their World Cup dream alive.
