Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has strongly refuted reports circulating online claiming that he has resigned from the opposition party. In a statement issued on Friday, Abubakar declared himself a “bona fide and loyal member” of the PDP, dismissing the resignation claims as completely unfounded.
The statement, signed by his media aide Paul Ibe, attributed the spread of these false reports to “desperate politicians” whom Abubakar accused of orchestrating a smear campaign against him. The reports, which initially surfaced on a Facebook page, alleged Abubakar’s departure from the PDP, a claim he vehemently denounced as a “malicious lie” and a politically motivated attack aimed at damaging his reputation.
Abubakar further reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the PDP and insisted that these baseless rumors would not deter him from his dedication to the party’s principles and objectives. He emphasized that the ongoing attempts to disseminate false information would neither distract him from his political engagements nor diminish his loyalty to the PDP.
The statement explicitly addressed the source of the rumor: We ordinarily would not waste words on faceless social media platforms like the so-called Adamawa Happenings. However, in light of inquiries from concerned Nigerians and credible members of the press, we are compelled to set the record straight: His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria (19992007) and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has not we repeat, has not resigned from the PDP. He remains a steadfast, bona fide, and loyal member of the party.”
Abubakar’s camp further stated, The source of this baseless rumour is a Facebook page peddling falsehoods, evidently orchestrated by desperate political operatives with nothing but mischief and confusion on their agenda. It is a calculated attempt to mislead the public and sow discord among the millions of Nigerians who look to Atiku Abubakar for direction and leadership. This is not just fake news it is a crude, shameless political hatchet job.”
The former Vice President urged Nigerians, particularly his supporters, to disregard the “malicious fabrication,” labeling it a “vile, vexatious ploy that deserves nothing but contempt.”
Concluding the statement, Abubakar reiterated his unwavering dedication to the core values of the PDP and the democratic aspirations of the Nigerian people.
