Reigning LaLiga champions Barcelona kicked off their title defense with a decisive 3-0 victory over Mallorca on Saturday, extending their winning streak at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix to eight consecutive matches.
The visitors wasted no time, taking the lead just seven minutes in after a period of sustained pressure. Lamine Yamal delivered a superb cross to the back post, where an unmarked Raphinha headed it in for Barcelona’s first goal of the season.
The match, however, took a controversial turn when Barcelona netted their second goal. With a Mallorca player on the ground after a head collision, Ferran Torres continued the play, finishing beautifully into the top corner. This was followed by a nightmare first half for the hosts, who had two players—Manu Morlanes and Vedat Muriqi—sent off, leaving them with just nine men.
With a two-goal lead and a significant numerical advantage, Barcelona dominated the second half. Lamine Yamal was a constant threat on the wing, creating several opportunities. The young winger, who was a standout performer throughout the match, capped off his evening in stoppage time with a fantastic individual effort. He moved inside and curled a left-footed shot into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and sealing the 3-0 victory.
The game also saw the competitive debut of new signing Marcus Rashford, who entered in the second half. His presence added to Barcelona’s attacking depth as the team continued to pour forward, hitting the post through Dani Olmo and testing the Mallorca goalkeeper, Leo Roman, on multiple occasions.
Ultimately, Barcelona started their season in style, while Mallorca will have to regroup after a difficult home opener.
