The family of Big Brother Naija Level Up season winner, Phyna (born Ijeoma Josephina Otabor), has laid to rest her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, weeks after she was involved in a tragic road accident. The emotional ceremony was held following a period of public mourning and an outpouring of support for the reality star.

Ruth, a 24-year-old recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, was struck by a truck belonging to the Dangote Group on August 13, 2025, just six days after her graduation. The accident left her with severe injuries, including the amputation of one leg and serious damage to her head and hands.

Despite fighting for weeks, Ruth passed away on August 31 at around 6:30 a.m., as confirmed by a statement from the family’s legal representatives. Her body was moved from Ebony Mortuary in Ikoyi to her residence in Ikorodu, Ogun State, for the funeral rites.

Videos from the burial show Phyna surrounded by friends and fellow former BBNaija housemates, including Christy O and Groovy, who provided support during the difficult time.

The Dangote Group had previously released a statement expressing sorrow over Ruth’s passing. The company stated that it had covered all of Ruth’s medical bills, made arrangements for advanced treatment abroad, and provided support to the family. However, the tragic loss has sparked a public outcry, with many calling for justice and increased corporate responsibility concerning road safety in Nigeria.
